Minutes of the CONCH General Meeting
March 8, 2010
Harwich Community Center

Vice President, Bill Jordan opened the meeting at 10:00AM ringing a large bell. President, Gerry McDowell was on vacation. Bill Jordan asked new members to stand and identify themselves. Six new members stood and were warmly welcomed.

Bill Jordan read the Treasurer's Report for Treasurer, Judi Cutts who was on vacation.

Bill Jordan spoke about membership. CONCH currently has 438 members, not counting today's new members. Jeff Hahner was on vacation and Nancy Rafferty manned the membership table. We have six new members and several others who took sign up cards and were interested in joining. Two of the new members were from Dennis and felt CONCH was very welcoming and were excited to be joining. Many of the new members had read about CONCH in Prime Time Magazine. It most definitely made an impression!

Bill Jordan thanked Sal and Nina Rabbio and Fred Iarrobino for today's coffee and pastries. Joan and Leo Dunphy were on vacation, but Bill praised their great work on the Hospitality Committee.

Blanche MacMullan, along with Franco and Delena Previd were the Greeters this meeting. They welcomed and introduced the new members around.

The wonderful presentation given in January by Ginny O'Halloran RN, PhD and Dr. Ralph Porter, MD was acknowledged. Managing Your Own Health Care: Fact or Fiction was a great success enjoyed by a large group.

A thank you was extended to Jeff and Bette Hahner for hosting a wonderful Mardi Gras Party held on February 11th. The Dixieland Band and great food was enjoyed by everyone. Upcoming events were noted: The Theater Dinner Party is being held on Sunday, April 18th. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at HJT and dinner at the Ocean House in Dennis promises to be a lot of fun. Ray and Kay Sacramone are the hosts for this event and it is sold out. The Lobster Bake is being held Tuesday, June 8th. This event will be held jointly with Newcomers at the VFW in Chatham. CONCH numbers are full, but a few spots are open in Newcomers. Sunshine Committee Chair Ann McCarthy and her husband Bob were wished good luck on their move off Cape. Bill also mentioned that CONCH would be establishing a committee to send cards and remember members who have had sickness or sadness in their lives. He asked for members to notify us of anyone who may need to be remembered.

Jane Beth Chapman asked members to sign a petition being sent to Washington. This petition, sponsored by Meals on Wheels, asks Washington to continue the funding which provides food for seniors.

Program Chair Barbara Goldrick introduced today's speaker, Mary Ann Gray, RN and Volunteer Archivist, Chatham Historical Society. Mary Ann's presentation was An Historical Overview of the Chatham-Harwich area. It was very interesting, informative and enjoyable. Mary Ann quoted an early era antique dealer who stated "tell them it's old and rake in the gold". This brought a good laugh.

The Nominating Committee has chosen the slate of officers for 2010-2011. Voting will take place at the May Meeting and Bill said how important it was for members to be present at that meeting. Officers are: President, Bill Jordan Vice President, Kay Sacramone Treasurer, Dick Stenberg Secretary, Nancy Rafferty Activities, Morag Geraci

Bill reminded members that volunteers in CONCH are the folks who help pull us together to do fun things, get to know each other better, and share ideas and talents. Bill Jordan adjourned the meeting at 11:35.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rafferty Secretary
