Minutes of the CONCH General Meeting
May 12, 2008
Harwich Community Center

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by President Bob McCarthy. Secretary's Report of March 10, 2008 was accepted as read.

President McCarthy read the Treasurers Report: Beginning balance as of March 10, 2008 was $6,629.40. Closing balance after disbursements is: $6,407.79. Treasurer's report was accepted as read.

President Bob thanked the hospitality folks for a good year: Jim & Helen Athens, Fred Iarrobino and Bob Zani. Leo and Joan Dunphy will be in charge next year.

Activities: Louise Archambault announced a fashion show and luncheon fundraiser sponsored by the Harwich Evening Women's Club to be held on June 5th at Sea View.

Newcomers plan a trip to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem MA on June 18. Flyers for both events are on the back table.

Correspondence was received from Irene Van Duyn thanking CONCH for considering Habitat for Humanity as a donation. Eight homes are going up in Harwich if passed by the Town. The charities donation plan was announced as: $200 for each of the following: HECH, CECH, Habitat for Humanity, Chatham Family Pantry, and the Family Pantry in Harwich. The membership approved the donation plan as presented.

Next years slate of officers are: President - Dick Doherty, VP - Gerry McDowell, Secretary - Margo Lewis, Treasurer - Judy Cutts, Activities - Anne-Marie Adams, No nominee at this time for Member-at-Large. The slate was approved. The rest of the team: Auditing - Bob Adams, Membership - Jeff Hahner, Hospitality - Leo & Joan Dunphy, Programs - Mike O'Halloran, Publicity & Website - Regina McDowell, Travel - Dona Webber, Greeters - Blanche MacMullan, Sunshine - Ann McCarthy & Marie Hayes, Nominating - John Brooks and Ron Kangas. Bob thanked everyone for their support during the year.

At this time Bill Maloney introduced our speaker Ed Quinn who talked about his career in the FBI, especially the investigation of organized crime in Boston.

The discussion turned to the newcomers proposed amendment to their by-laws eliminating the 5 year restriction for membership. Newcomers President Mark McGrath presented their groups view and answered questions from the floor. Seventy graduates are in the queue to come to CONCH. Whether they will move on is undecided at this time.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 12:05 am. Our next meeting will be held in September 2008, exact date TBA.
